How we compare
Everyone stops somewhere.
We don't.
Hiring platforms find people. EOR platforms handle payroll. Neither one runs your office. Here's what each actually covers, phase by phase.
Talent Acquisition
Before anyone joins your team, someone has to find them. Job description, sourcing, multi-stage screening, initial calls, technical assessment. This is the most visible part of hiring, and the part most solutions handle reasonably well. The question is what happens after.
Hiring platforms cover this phase well. EOR platforms don't touch it at all. But talent acquisition is only 5 of 42 touchpoints. Finding someone is the easy part. What comes next is where it falls apart.
Selection and Pre-Onboarding
Finding candidates is step one. Making sure they'll actually work for your company is step two. English fluency checks, cultural fit evaluation, background verification, reference checks, offer negotiation, employment contracts including NDAs and IP protection. Skip any of these and you're rolling the dice on someone you've never met, working from another country, with access to your codebase.
This is where hiring platforms start dropping off. They'll show you a shortlist, but the deep vetting, background checks, legal documentation? That's on you. EOR platforms handle the employment contract but nothing else.
Onboarding and Workspace Setup
Your new hire has accepted the offer. Now what? They need benefits enrollment, an office assignment, IT infrastructure, software licenses, security access, and a structured first week. Get this wrong and they spend their first two weeks asking where to sit and how to access Slack. Get it right and they're productive from day one.
Hiring platforms are done by this phase. EOR platforms enroll benefits but nothing else. The office, the equipment, the first-week experience? You're figuring that out yourself for someone in a different country and time zone.
Office Infrastructure
This is the phase nobody thinks about until something breaks. Office rent, furniture, enterprise-grade internet, hardware maintenance, security systems, cleaning and reception. For someone in India, who's managing the space? Who fixes the WiFi when it goes down during a client call?
Zero coverage from hiring platforms. Zero from EOR platforms. This entire phase is invisible to every other solution because they don't have offices. Your team member is working from home, on their own laptop, over their apartment WiFi.
Ongoing HR and Operations
This is the biggest phase and the one that separates a placement from a real office. Payroll, benefits, leave management, local supervision, expense reimbursements, compliance, employee relations, consolidated invoicing, and monthly reporting. It's also where most solutions stop at payroll and leave the rest to you.
EOR platforms handle payroll. That's it. One touchpoint out of nine. Everything else, the supervision, the compliance, the employee issues, the reporting, you're managing from a different time zone with no local presence.
Performance and Growth
Hiring someone is not the finish line. If you want your satellite office to grow and your people to stay, someone needs to manage performance reviews, compensation benchmarking, learning and development, promotions, and team engagement. Without this, your best people leave for companies that invest in them.
Neither hiring platforms nor EOR platforms touch performance and growth. Nobody is running reviews, benchmarking salaries, or creating development paths. This is the phase that determines whether your team stays for years or churns every six months.
Offboarding
People leave. When they do, it matters how. Exit interviews surface problems before they affect the rest of your team. Knowledge transfer protects your codebase. Asset recovery gets your equipment back. Final settlement ensures clean legal closure.
EOR platforms handle final settlement because that's a payroll function. The exit interview, knowledge transfer, asset recovery? Not covered. Hiring platforms have been out of the picture since Phase 2.
The numbers don't lie.
